Australian solar rental scheme launched by Aggreko

Once again, we’re excited to bring you news of a positive solar innovation, this time from down under!

Aggreko have recently announced that they will be offering a new solar rental scheme to residents across Australia, a programme which will provide consumers with a 1MW option that doesn’t include any long-term financial or technical tie-ins.

Aggreko are suggesting that deployment time for the project is three to four months, with contract duration starting at five years, allowing homeowners to get a good long look at the benefits of solar without making a full commitment in terms of their own complete purchase.

The system that is being offered will have low operations and maintenance needs, integrating with Aggreko’s battery storage and thermal generators. The entire process will be managed by intelligent software, all utilising one central control system. This hybrid system is highly efficient, lowering carbon footprint, something that Aggreko are not just offering to others, but have recently added at their own site.

Aggreko themselves have put in place a hybrid system at the Granny Smith gold mine, situated in Western Australia. Their project is powered by more than 23,000 solar panels and a 2MW battery system, as well as its existing 27MW gas-fired power station. The addition of solar has thus far reduced the mine’s total fuel consumption by between 10% and 15% – this is roughly equivalent to the annual consumption of 2,500 cars.

Karim Wazni, who is the Managing Director of Aggreko Microgrid and Storage Solutions stated: “Aggreko Solar Power is designed for ease of deployment both in physical terms, thanks to relatively quick off-grid implementation, as well as financial, with no requirement of significant upfront costs. Our goal is to offer the widest and most flexible range of mobile and modular solutions, including off-grid renewable energy systems such as this one, as a plug-and-play service for short or long term needs.”

This is a great step for Australia’s utilisation of solar energy, with the rental model providing a creative option that we’re sure other countries will be watching with interest.
